What is a Thermogenic / Carbohydrate Ratio?

After reading the article about "improving your diet" I had a quick question in regards the first point in the article....

Quote:
1.) Fruit with an excellent Thermogenic/Carbohydrate Ratio include: Apples, Blueberries, Grapefruit, Peaches, Strawberries vs. Inferior Thermogenic Effect Fruits: Bananas, Dried Fruit, Raisins, etc., Watermelon.
Could anyone enlighten me as to what a Thermogenic / Carbohydrate Ratio is?

thank you

Re: What is a Thermogenic / Carbohydrate Ratio?

The Thermogenic / Carbohydrate ratio and it being referenced as "excellent" or "inferior" is talking about something called "diet-induced thermogenesis". It is the amount of energy your body uses when digesting, transporting, and storing the food that you consume.

For example, lettuce and broccoli are excellent because the amount of energy your body puts into digesting these is huge in comparison to the amount of energy contained in the food (that's why they often say that (for practical reasons, lettuce has no calories).

You can see this article on a blog that has some good info about it
http://www.carbohydrate-guide.com/ar...-fat-loss.html

So something with a high thermogenic / carbohydrate ratio is going to be great if you want to eat a good amount of it but burn a lot of calories while eating it. I will write an article covering more about this and post the link here soon. Hope this helped
