Atkins Diet & Saturated Fats

hey folks
i've been doing some reading about dieting and the like and have read a little about the atkins diet vs other types of diets. (i'm not personally looking into the atkins, just doing some reading).

what I'm getting about the atkins diet is that under the atkins diet, you are allowed to eat a lot of saturated fats. To me, that seems very unhealthy - butter for example - and would not be all that great on your heart and arteries?

any thoughts about all these saturated fats?

My folks were on the atkins, n they both lost some weight. The idea to that is that you don't eat any carbs, its all proteins/fats like cheese etc which I'm sure eating so much of that kinda food will clogg something up.

I heard people on atkins have been known to die sooner, or something. Not sure.

the author of the atkins diet Dr Atkins died a couple years ago due to heart related problems. people just need to have a healthy balence. stop cutting out food groups. besides candy there should be a balence diet. learn from the seniors that are 70-100 years old. clearly they are the ones with the most optimal life style for longevity

It's kind of scary. You are right, Atkins does allow a huge amount of saturated fat. There go cholesterol levels through the roof!

There are so much better ways to lose weight...

well if i die sooner than im supposed to then i die looking damn good..ive been doiing the Atkins Diet for a few months now and ive lost a nice number of LBS and been able to keep them off...Most power lifters consume way more protein than i do on the atkins diet and they are in great shape...doing any Diet you have to have common sense about YOUR DIET( body type)
if the diet says that butter and lard are ok so enjoy and your a over weight person dont be a dumbass and consume 2 tubs of butter in every meal you eat..When i over weight person stops eating carbs or starts a low carb life style there body starts to burn fat..i easy reminder is Carbs are like wood on a fire your body burns them up for enegry first and FAt cells are like Coal..it takes a while to get them burning but once they start they burn for a while and you can tell...for my breakfast today..i ate 3 hard bolied eggs a 1/2 cup of cottage chesse and some stemed brochlli with cobly chesse on it..yummy huh now add some red pepper and hot sauce and your eating like a champ..
The atkins diet slowly lets you adapt more and more carbs into your diet..keep reading the books if you have them...and after the induction phase your see a diffrence in weight and if not in a weight youll see a diffrence in enegry
.....The best diets out there for over weight people are low carb ( not no Carb) and high protein diets..any questions just message me and ill give you some more info..

ok...atkins is great for "some" people...namley the run of the mill donut eating fatass. It IS better to eat just saturated fat than donuts, chips, icecream, candy AND saturated fat.

but for "US" as in health freaks in the top 5% of the population fitness level. Saturated fats are to be eaten at a minimum. For me the main reason is that they AGE YOU!...and I want to keep looking 25 instead of almost 40...lol
