How Do I Calculate My One Rep Max? Five Rep Max?

I have read some articles that involve knowing your one or five rep max lifts on things like squats and bench press.

I have seen calculators online to calculate these numbers but I was wondering how accurate this can actually be? Your body seems so dynamic that this couldn't be accurate.

Are there other ways of figuring out your one rep max? How do other people go about doing it?

thank you

Re: How Do I Calculate My One Rep Max? Five Rep Max?

You just guess different weights and try them out?

I thought that if I tried one out and failed then when I tried the next weight, it wouldn't be my true 1 rep max cause I would be slightly fatigued from attempting the first one.

And if I tried different weights to get up to my 1 rep max, by the time I have tried and tested the different weights and found the one I max out on, it probably wouldn't be my max cause of the fatigue.

ORRRR... I have a feeling I might be over thinking this and should just try out some different weights to see what works? heh...

Re: How Do I Calculate My One Rep Max? Five Rep Max?

You should have a general idea of what your 1RM should be. Maybe find a calculator to give you a rough estimate, or just go try a weight and if you fail the next week try a lower weight.

Your true 1RM is the highest weight you've lifted one time, whether or not you're fatigued before hand doesn't matter.

I also think you are thinking too hard about this.
