Re: Changing workout to break a plateau

Also, does excercise order make a difference; for instance, would doing flys first and flat barbell bench last when I usually do barbell bench first and flys last?

Thanks

As far as excercise selection goes, it's usually best to do compound excercises first or those that take the most effort. For legs that could be squats, front squats, box squats, leg press, deadlifts, lunges, any number of exercises. For chest, that could be barbell, dumbbell, or machine presses, either flat, incline, or decline. Then you can move to more isolated movements if neccessary like a fly, dip, pullover, ect. Or you can even superset them.

The order does make a diiference. Typically, after a good warm up, you would want to start with the big compound mvements with the bigger muscle groups, such as squats, deadlifts, pull ups, barbell rows, then bench press, military press, etc. Smaller, isolation movements for the small muscle groups would be last, if you do them.

I try and do the biggest muscles or things like the bench press first.

Re: Does Exercise Order Matter?

Big growth comes from big compound exercises. Compound exercises are used mainly for building muscle while isolation gets a little extra work done or sometimes can be used for burning fat.

You want to focus on compound exercises for growth. Therefor you should always do them first.
