Does Squatting Stunt Your Growth

Hey whats up,
I was hanging out with some friends who started talking about working out and what workouts they did. Someone mentioned squats and a few people were uneasy about trying them. The responses were between 'I only want to get a big upper body' and 'I don't want squats to stunt my growth, I have some more growing to do.'

While the first option is another topic (lower body workouts help achieve a bigger upper body), I wanted to put it out there that the other response is not true too.

Yes, squats is a vertical exercise and puts pressure down on your back, however, squats are tried and proven to not stunt growth.

If anything, squats can help you to grow because of the large release of growth hormone.

Help to spread the word

Re: Does Squatting Stunt Your Growth

Thats true, there haven't been any credible studies that I've seen that prove that increased pressure stunts growth. But if anyone wants to be extra cautious, its not too complicated of a process to get a check up on your growth plates (epiphyseal plates... the ends of your bone that are responsible for growth) are closed. If they are, then you're not going to grow anymore anyway.
