Re: Arching My Back on Bench Press?

If you are concerned about chest develpment more geared toward bodybuilding I would advise this. (1) Lying on the bench keep your legs further apart this gives you less of a chance of arching your back because your weight is further spread out. (2) Pull your back and shoulder blades together as if squeezing a coke can between your back, you are to keep this form as you are bench pressing it takes the stress off your shoulders and puts it all on your chest. You will notice that you can't lift as much weight this way because your are only pushing with your chest

You should remember to keep your core tightened while lifting any lift. Doing this will cause your back to go into it's natural arch. You will never get a perfectly flat back due to that natural arch, but when you feel like your arching more tighten the core muscles (abs and lower back). So feet planted firmly on the ground and abs tightened. and bring the weight down to like a little under to the bottom half of your nipple. and remember that a strong back will make your bench progress and chest developement make gains faster and better.

Peace.
nice bum nice

It's All Your Prefference. Ive Trained Chest Legs Up, Back Straight, And Achieved Nothing. I Bench With 3 Points Of Contact, 1 The Back Of Your Head.2, Your Ass. And Three The Balls Of Your Feet, It The Bench Is Low To The Ground If Not, Feet Flat At 45 Degrees Out From The Bench. Dont Think Of The Benchpress As A "chest" Workout, You Should Tax Your Whole Body Gettin Those Reps.

Talking Re: Arching My Back on Bench Press?

First of all the "proper" way to bench is with your back flat, knees bent at 90º to the floor with feet pointing staright, shoulder width apart and planted firmly, this is supposed to give you more power pressing. your elbows should stay close to your body, or else the load will transfer to your shoulders, not chest. However, the world powerlifting bench champion, arches his back to an extreme, and he puts up 1'008 lbs!!!! so screw the 'experts' they're prolly mostly scrawny guys anyway

I wouldnt say ALL, correct form is incredibly important, and people aren't always going to "prefer" the correct form.
