L-Arginine and Nitric Oxide Related?

What is the connection between L-Arginine and Nitric Oxide?

For some reason I get a strong feeling they are connected in some way from the things that I have read and their context, but I don't know exactly how they are related.

thanks

Re: L-Arginine and Nitric Oxide Related?

L-Arginine is one of the precursors in the formation of Nitric Oxide.

L-Arginine in large doses also stimulates the pituitary release of growth hormone.

NO is produced by all tissues of the body and plays very important roles in the cardiovascular system, immune system and nervous system. NO is formed from L-arginine via the enzyme nitric oxide synthase or synthetase (NOS)
