Eating a Bigger Breakfast

I am looking to lose a lot of weight. I heard that eating more at breakfast can help you to eat less at other meals. Is this a good thing to do?

What you are talking about is calorie tapering. There are a lot of diet experts that take this approach. It dosn't mean that you stuff yourself at breakfast. But what they are saying is to still eat 6 meals throughout the day but to eat a little less at each meal with your first meal being your largest and your last meal before bed being the smallest.

The idea is to still eat every 3 hours to keep your metabolism up. Eating large meals or stuffing yourself or even missing meals slows down your metabolism. You have to figure that you sleep say 8 hours. Now you divide your meals into the remaining 16. That leaves eating at about every 3 hours. Small frequent meals every 3 hours, speed up your metabolism, and keep a good nitrogen balance.

Note: I am guilty of eating too much at meals. I really should follow a better eating plan!

Breakfast gets day started off right and can burn it off during the day.
Eggs and oatmeal and fruit are good choices. Other times of the day eat more meals but smaller portions mixing protein and carbs. The big dinner eat at night, especially late before resting for night, more likely to turn into fat.

Good point on combining protein and carbs with meals. Short of getting into calorie counting and protein-carb-fat ratios a good mix is lean protein, a complex carb, and complex fibrous carb.

Example: Brocoli-[CFC], Chicken Breast-[LP], Sweet Potato-[CC].

Re: Eating a Bigger Breakfast

Personally as a nutritionist I don't go for the calorie tapering. For those trying to lose weight I typically recommend all meals be approximately the same size. This keeps the blood sugar more stable and the metabolism up. The last meal being a bit small is reasonable because we tend to be less active at night.

I definately agree on combing carbs and protein at breakfast, and all meals actually.

That's just my views.

Since we are talking about food, here is some food for thought!

[1] If you are maintaining or staying at the same weight you are at now with the calories you are taking in and your present level of activity, what must I do? Answer= Create a calorie deficit!

OR

[2] If I am taking in the same amount of calories, I will have to increase my current level of activity!

Re: Eating a Bigger Breakfast

To gain weight you would want to eat 5 - 6 large meal a day containing 1 meal every 2 - 3 hours.

To lose weight you do much similar. You eat 5 - 6 small meals per day contraining 1 meal every 2 - 3 hours.

If you don't mood eat which will cause you to over-stuff yourself and just snack on small groups of healthy foods you will begin to lose weight.
