Re: Getting Skin Back to Normal After Losing Weight

On a related topic, is it possible to do anything about stretch marks that occur from gaining and subsequently losing weight?

I'm 26, and I've lost about 20 lbs in the last 2 months, and I'm still losing quickly. I just want to see if there is anything I can do before exploring a medical option. The striae are mostly in the groin area, but I have one or two around the love handles.

Even something to restore original coloration would be helpful.

There's evidence that Stretch marks really aren't from gaining/growing too quick. Experts believe it's actually hormones that cause stretch marks. Reason being there have been people with 200 lb growths on their foot for instance and not one stretch mark.

Fading will come with time. Retinoids (like retin A) increase collagen and might help. and sure, try whatever pregnant people use too there's probably some truth to coco butter if everyone uses it. The shark oil or whatever in prep H is temporary.

I've not heard about this, but I can certainly see where evidence comes from. At my biggest, I was never more than about 205lbs (I'm 5'8") and that didn't seem like it was so big as to cause this kind of problem.

Then again, the skin around your genitals is more delicate. Who knows. I'll look into it further though. Thanks for the input.

Re: How Can I Get Rid of Stretch Marks?

I had a lot of stretch marks as a result of going from my original weight of 125lbs to my highest weight of 252 lbs (it took the better part of 14 years to do so, but the stretch marks came nevertheless).

What worked for me, strangely enough was to always keep my skin well moisturized to prevent future strech marks and the application of cocoa butter in conjunction with tanning for my bodybuilding contests had the unexpected result of fading most of my marks to the point where they are all but invisible.

The marks were pretty pronounced, andnow they are all but gone. While I am not a big fan of tanning, this really did work, for me and for some of my clients that have tried it over the years while preparing for their competitions.

Hope this helps.

Re: How Can I Get Rid of Stretch Marks?

I've put on around 42-50lbs of size in the past 18 months, and my muscles are visibly bigger. I have quite large stretch marks on my delt-pec tie-in area, i.e. like on this pic http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/smarks3.gif . + a small one on my right bicep.

I also have a stretch mark on one of my hamstrings due to the amount of leg work & cycling etc that I now do.

I think tanning reduces them. But you can buy various oils that claim to reduce them.

I was just reading a post this morning on another board about this and they were saying the same thing as BATMANNYC in the post above yours. About keeping the skin moist. The only thing that was said different was they used vitamin E and Aloe Vera.
