whats up esoroca

well, asking for help is definitely an important first step.

can you tell us some about your lifestyle? what you eat (generally), any exercise you do already? access to a gym?

Re: I'm Huge - Looking for help on losing weight

dude, i say for starters, dont drink ANY soda at ALL. that is key. juice isnt that good for you either. lots of sugar. stick to water, or if thats not good enough try sugar free drinks. those sparkling waters dont have aspartame so they are pretty good. also, dont just starve yourself. this will make you body go into starvation mode and the first thing you eat will go straight to fat. if you dont want to hit the gym hard, just get up and move. walk or something. last, your a big guy, so if you hit the weights hard and consistantly, you will get really strong, and the more muscle you have, the more it burns calories just living. good luck

Yes, more starting off points to continue bosquat.

I agree with dropping the soda. Try to greatly increase your water intake to replace things like soda (also see this post on losing weight with water)

Try to drop out all of your fast food, it may not be plausible to do all at once if that is deeply engrained in your lifestyle, but try as hard as you can, because those are greatly contributing to the weight. KFC = no no. As for the meats, try to eat more white meat, like chicken. I think in the diet forum there is a post on meats or proteins that help when losing weight.

I would suggest looking through the weight loss section of the articles here on cf and the weight loss forum.

You will want to try and have more than 3 meals a day, not big meals though, HEALTHY snacks. By having these healthy snack-meals throughout the day, it will help to prevent you from over eating during a few meals. Also, the increased number will help to increase your metabolism.

As for exercise, there is a variety of options. A nice 30 - 45 minute walk each day is a start, but there are many other options which are much more powerful than this. e.g. Boxing and such

More to come but i need to hit the books for a lil bit

Pictures can be beneficial to keep you motivated and track progress, its up to you.

What are "Bold and Bake" meals?

And i would avoid eating anything at McDonalds, just because then you are around the other foods they provide which aren't condusive to droppin lbs

Exclamation Re: I'm Huge - Looking for help on losing weight

I 'kinda sorta' use to be in your boat my friend. At 5'7" tall I maxed out at 260lbs....which is 80lbs overweight. over the course of one year I got down to just over 200....and was 198 at onetime....right now it fluxes between 200 and 210 but I am working on that. LOL

First off.....cut out the sodas as much as possible. I know how hard that can be....but if you can stand it ... having a 'diet' once in a while might be ok to ween yourself off soda....if you are 'addicted' to it.

Also, eating foods higher in fiber will help with weight loss. Here's how that works (from what I understand).... fiber is 'harder' to breakdown in the system and thus the body spends more energy to consume it. Also, certain "high fiber" foods will also stick with you longer or will also "clean you out" in a sense.

One such food is the Quaker Oatmeal Weight Control Instant Oatmeal. When I started my weight loss....that's all I had for breakfast....still it's my only breakfast. It has 2 times more fiber than any other Oatmeals that I have seen.....also it's what the 'players' on The Biggest Loser use.

As above, eating healthier meats....those low in fat and high if protein will help....mainly Fish (Tuna especially) and Chicken...(the breast mainly)

Also....you should limit...but not cut out completely....Carbs. Carbs hide everywhere....every fast food chain is loaded with Carbs. All that bread.....not you may ask KFC sells Chicken and chicken breasts....well...what are they rolled in and how are they cooked? Rolled in bread and cooked in fat.

As for exercise....how I started out was slow. I tired quickly and lost my breath just as quick. So I started by walking....first it was only a mile...then it got to 3 miles. I also started a Jumo rope routine that I had saved from a jump rope wrapper. that along with the walking helped tons!

As for the Pix.....that's a good way of watching your self. Also ... pick a day a week to weigh yourself. and keep track in some sort of journal.....also...keeping a food log and an exercise log helps too.

I also lost weight by using the Weight Watcher system.....which works...if you stick to it..... WW is good for those that don't know 'how to eat' this is how I learned to watch waht to eat and how much of it to eat....I followed it and got to my 200....then stopped for a bit and gained 12 back....back on it to lose that 12 and another 20.

If you need any support or have more questions.....jsut PM me.

-Peace-

Re: I'm Huge - Looking for help on losing weight

I posted this elsewhere

John Berardi 7 habits of highly effective nutritional programs.

John Berardi - 7 Habits

1. Eat every 2-3 hours, no matter what. You should eat between 5-8 meals per day.
2. Eat complete (containing all the essential amino acids), lean protein with each meal.
3. Eat fruits and/or vegetables with each food meal.
4. Ensure that your carbohydrate intake comes from fruits and vegetables. Exception: workout and post-workout drinks and meals.
5. Ensure that 25-35% of your energy intake comes from fat, with your fat intake split equally between saturates (e.g. animal fat), monounsaturates (e.g., olive oil), and polyunsaturates (e.g. flax oil, salmon oil).
6. Drink only non-calorie containing beverages, the best choices being water and green tea.
7. Eat mostly whole foods (except workout and post-workout drinks).
So what about calories, or macronutrient ratios, or any number of other things that I’ve covered in other articles? The short answer is that if you aren’t already practicing the above-mentioned habits, and by practicing them I mean putting them to use over 90% of the time (i.e., no more than 4 meals out of an average 42 meals per week violate any of those rules), everything else is pretty pointless.
