Qualifications Looking to Learn More I've Been to the Gym | Amount of sleep I was wondering whats the required number of hours a person should sleep to be re-energized and fit to work out and do daily activities? I get around 8-11 (max) beause I work with children from 9-4 and work out from 5-7pm. Is there a required number of hours one should sleep to get recharged or would it all depend on body weight, height, etc? I know sleep is important for someone who works out so their muscles and body can rest and relax, but will too much sleep be a problem? I'm all ears.... ~Shwa' |

You will get the best sleep from the hours of 11pm - 3am Your age will play a roll in how many hours are recommended, if I only get 8 hours I'm still tired. Are you actually working out for 2 hours or is that just the time it takes you including driving/changing etc?

Qualifications Looking to Learn More I've Been to the Gym | Re: Amount of sleep I've always heard a standard 8 hours for adults, and 10 for children, but, of course, the more one tears up and breaks down one's body, the more time one's body needs to recover, but, as much as I've ran my mouth, I'll reitterate what everyone else is saying and tell you that 8-11 hours should be plenty. |

Qualifications Personal Trainer | Re: Amount of sleep As far as rest goes, I think the rest that's most beneficial is time off from training a specific bodypart rather than actual sleep. Everyone has different sleep requirements to feel energized. You know yours, it's been that way your entire life, and it isn't neccessarily the same as anyone elses. Some people need only 4hrs, others may need 10hrs. Whatever it takes for you is fine, just make sure you get what you need. The important factor in rest is that you are giving your body ample time to recover and grow from your previous workout before you hit that muscle again. Weight training is only the stimulus to muscle growth, then with proper rest and nutrition growth will occur. But if you train a muscle again before it has had time to repair itself you will actually overtain your muscle and see a strength defecit. I would recommend training a bodypart every 5-7 days, unless you have some un-natural help. |
