Qualifications Looking to Learn More I've Been to the Gym | Different Types of Abs - Genetics or Training? hey when looking through bodybuilding pictures, I see a lot of different variations of peoples' abs. Some bodybuiders have wide abs, going from one side of their body to near the other side. Other bodybuilders seem to have like blocks going up the center that are narrow and don't spread across the whole stomach. I'm not sure if I'm describing them well enough, I couldn't find any pictures. Anyways, are these two types of abdominals developed differently through training with different exercises (like incorporating more twists to hit the sides of your abs) or is it more of a genetics thing? just some thoughts I've been having. I'd really like to develop the abs that go down the center and are narrow. -Motof

Qualifications Avid Bodybuilding Reader Transformationed Looking to Learn More I've Been to the Gym | Re: Different Types of Abs - Genetics or Training? i think it has something to do with what you do all the time to help your abs---working sports .....mine stayed tight and narrow most of my life and now they are starting to spread out---plus the type of sit ups you do and all that crap added together--- i think anyway |

Qualifications Personal Trainer | Re: Different Types of Abs - Genetics or Training? You cannot change the structure of your body. Some peoples abs are like perfect cookie cutter abs like Dexter Jackson for example. Other peoples aren't even symetrical, check out Jay Cutlers, one side doesn't even match up with the others. But, unfortunately you cannot change that, it's all structural. All you can do is increase the size of the muscle, and decrease the amount of bodyfat around them, but their general shape and arrangement will never change. |
