Sore Back After Squats

alongside my leg fatigue, i've had a killer of a sore back this morning after doing squats at the gym last night, i hadn't squatted for a while and had a pretty heavy weight on for the last few sets.

anyone else experienced this?

Re: sore back

Is it possible that you weren't quite keeping your back straight during the squats? It is important to keep your back straight while doing squats, especially if you're lifting a lot of weight. One way to keep from accidentally bending your back is to make sure that you don't look at the ground. Keeping your gaze level or even looking at the ceiling can go a long ways towards preventing back injury the next time you do squats.

Re: sore back

Well since you haven't squatted in awhile...you probably just aren't used to using your lower back.
Do you do any other lower back exercises (eg. deadlift or good mornings)

Also remember to keep your core tight.

Re: sore back

That happens all the time when one of two things are going on. Either you havn't squatted heavy for a while, you core isn't strong enough to align your body properly while executing the excercise with a heavy load, or a combination of the two. But, yes, I get that a little if I havn't squatted heavy for a while.

Also make sure you're sitting back and not down.

Spot on bro! He's exactly right. While doing squats you should keep your back perfectly straight. However- nothing you do can take pressure off your back during squats, just the way it is, but you CAN reduce the pressure.

Questions. .

1) Did you cover the bar with a pad or towl?
2) Was your back straight?
3) How often do you work your back?
4) Where was the bar positioned?
