Soreness Issues

So I've been working out for a while and starting a lot of upper body training with arms and chest. I did some lifts for 3 hours on my arms and of course their sore, but the tricept part of my arms hurt like hell!!! This is the third day and so far I can hardly lift anything and or bend my arms together. there are other parts of my body that are sore but these areas hurt teh most. Is there some relaxation techniques or resting methods to get better so I can work out sooner?

What do mean I did some lifts for 3 hours? You do need to relax and not overtrain. Your not in the marines yet Shwa. Let them beat you up a little dont beat yourself up!Why dont you post up the workout that you did. Example I did Barbell curls 3 sets of 254 reps.Maybe Chris or someone can set you up with a beginner program. Take it easy!

Re: Soreness Issues

I am just joking about the 254 reps. I just want you to slow down. Not overtrain!

Jeepers! If your goal is gaining mass & gettin bigger, then 3 hours is way too long. You will not see the results you want with this. Try to keep your workouts from 45 - 60 minutes. In particular, your arms are not nearly as big of a muscle as say your chest, so they don't need as much of training. A few sets for triceps and a few for biceps should be good.

Check out the gaining mass article, it is a good brief overview. I dont think you're big enough yet tho to handle that diet, but there are some other great pointers.

Re: Soreness Issues

Thanks for the information you two, so far here's the routine I did during those three hours. Reps were not recoreded (kinda lost track of each). But I think I might have over-strained my tricepts, so that might be the reason they hurt so badly.

Workout:
Push-Ups
Sit-Ups
Curls (Dumbells and bar)
??? - Where you take a dumbell and hold it behind your head with both hands, the lower it to your back and lift it up again.
???- Where your on the side of a bentch or bed and life a dumbell with one arm up and down on the side of your body.

Yeah my arms were huge after the workout, but they shrink a little to a decent size but hurt like anything.

Shwa. What up! I see you belong to an athletic club.Did anyone show you around or show you how equiptment works and explain what this equiptment does to work different body parts? I dont know what you have their but next time you go to the club ask someone to point you to the person who instructs beginners. Its your club. Ask who explains basic instruction. Whats their qualifacations.Learn about the place.Ask questions.Dont be shy! If they didnt give you a tour and ask if you have any questions tell them you have some now.Dont use any machines until a qualified instructor gives you the scoop on every aspect of it.Ask anything your uncertain about.Remember dont be shy.Be safe!

There is a few exercises this could be, are you bent over and resting your arm on one leg? Or just regular curls?

Post some of the other workouts you are doing on other days so we can check those out too.

Re: Soreness Issues

Wow, I have a ot of things to answer for. Bit just for an update I took some time off from the upper body work-out to rest a bit and now there's no more soreness. I've been working on the mid-section (abbs) while I was on hiatus. I'll have to answer the following quesitons the best I can:

Yes thats the one I did during my mass work-out. Its really effective so i like to do it, plus its fun to do while I'm listening to my iPod ^.^ But I was on the edge of the bed, one knee on the bed and one leg supporting my body on the ground, one arm resting on the bed while the other lifted the weight.

Oh trust me after the pain I went through I've taken the advice and stuck with it, but I still watch that damn show even 'till this day.

bronson:

I'm suppose to be set up with a personal trainer in the next week, but yes I do go there but know my limits and what to do on the machines. Usually I dont like to bother the trainers (even though its their job) so I just stick with what I can do and whats safe for my small body at the moment. But dont worry, I always ask questions and take advice before starting anything new or if I'm confused on something.

Hmmm, not a bad idea, and I learned something new ^.^

Thank you all very much, if there are any more issues with things I'll make sure to get the best advice from you guys here . I'll post my workout routine when I get off of work tonight to see if its helping me out any.
