Relaxation Techniques for Optimal Recovery

Question:

Sometime I feel that my muscles are really tight and need break. Is there anything such as Massaging or taking a break after a month or after a stipulated period of time. The Trainer of my Gym told me that you have to massage your body (monthly) to get your muscles relaxed. Do you have any idea or information which can help me. Because I have felt many time that my muscles get so stiff that if someone stretches me then I feel pain.

well when you said that you feel pain is basically you have a lack of circulation and a build up of lactic acid which causes the pain you have. the only thing to do is keep getting massages once or twice a month. that will keep the circulation in the muscles. also something that worked with me and my clients is right after a workout do a cold hot shower. 30sec cold 1min hot 30sec cold 1min hot 30sec cold. this helped move the lactic acid out the muscle and gives you a refreshing feeling

I agree that part of it is a lack of circulation and a build up of lactic acid and massage really does help with that... however if someone is so tight it hurts to stretch it may just be that they don't stretch enough... stretching is VERY important and most people skip it and then wonder why they aren't flexible and they always feel tight... so stop wondering and start stretching... just remember, bouncing does NOT help.. you want slow static stretching, and try to hold each stretch for at least 30 seconds if not a full minute... it takes our muscles about 60 seconds to become accustomed to a stretch and relax into it.. at that point you will be able to deepen the stretch some and gain some flexability, just be patient with your stretching and don't expect to become Gumby after a week of stretching.... I'm a yoga instructor and I had a student quit coming to class because he wasn't 'magically' more flexable after a month of classes (two classes a week) and he was only stretching the two nights he came to class each week

GymFeeder is not an actual person, it is a username under which some informational RSS feeds are posted to the forums for other members to read and catch up on. The stuff that is in GymFeeder's post is just part of the article and then in the article I suppose they answer the question and discuss it.
