Boxing to Lose Weight

Hey whats up

Alongside with working out, boxing is an awesome way to lose weight. In my classes I have seen many people come in and start out as over weight with a goal of losing weight. After some time passed (sorry I don't know how long it took them, its different for everyone of course) their bodies completely transformed to being amazingly lean.

One of the guys I spoke with I actually found it very hard to believe that he was overweight because he had slimmed down so much.

Yes there are many sports in which you can lose weight very well, but I have seen first hand results with boxing.

For those who have never been to a studio, you come out of boxing drenched in sweat and it is somewhat difficult to gain significant mass because of how many calories you burn. Bulking is possibly out of the question ha.

Just some food for thought
John

Boxing is a very good cardiovascular workout if it is done properly. Before you go and start punching a bag, make sure you talk with an educated trainer about whether or not you are healthy enough to jump into such a grueling workout. Also, correct form is everything. Punching a bag is hard on the hand and the wrist, so make sure it is done properly. You don't want to injure yourself or it will be harder to loose the weight!

Re: Boxing to Lose Weight

Boxing is an insane workout. I started to lose weight thinking it was a walk in the park since I hate the treadmill. Boy was I wrong I dropped weight pretty quick and this was only training twice a week for 45 min.

My trainer was great has won many golden gloves and other tittles. I did find it a problem trying to lift and box it just didnt work. This was all done at Scot Mendelson's gym and Scot even said it wasnt a good idea if you want to lift and fight. You need to be loose and fast for boxing. We all know when you left you are too stiff.(for the most part)

Re: Boxing to Lose Weight

I'm a 7-0 former amateur boxer. I too was a weight lifter while I boxed until I realized I needed to make a decision as far as weight lifting vs. boxing goes. My buddy that did it was too far into his weight lifting career weighing 240 lbs, and benching 365 lbs. Me? I decided to lay off.

Boxing is a great way to lose weight. Running, punching bags, mitts, sparring, boxing the rope, warm-up exercises, shadow boxing, boxing the shield, etc.
