Over Consumption Of Water?

hey

I was just browsing through articles on the site and came across some information about drinking water. I know it is great to drink a lot of water, but I was wondering if it can become harmful to drink more water? Does water have harmful effects in ridiculous amounts?

Yes, when you drink too much water, bad symptoms can occurr. When drinking too much water, the body actually flushes out some of the vitamins and minerals that you do need. (Party of the filtering process when done correctly)

Search for water intoxication
Water intoxication can also come from drinking too much water without any electrolytes (gatorade and other similar drinks contain electrolytes)

Drinking too much is normally just a problem if you have it all at once. If you drink a lot throughout the day you should be fine. Your kidneys can handle 15 liters of water every day...soo.

In response to the 8 glasses a day (normal recommendation), if you are taking supplements, be sure to read the package. Some supplements require that you drink more water each day than eight glasses. An example is creatine, if you don't drink enough you can become dehydrated.

Re: Over Consumption Of Water?

drinking more water then is heathly would be extermely difficult
to my understanding over 3 gallons a day for a period of time can cause problems with sodium and potasuim levels , but drinking that much is a choir
1.5 to 2 gallons is a decent amount for someone using supps generally

Re: Over Consumption Of Water?

Its hard for most people to drink 1 or 1.5 gallons of water a day. Now you toss in cardio and weight training. Sweating becomes a factor in this. Its easier to drink 2 gallons of beer than 2 gallons of water.I would not worry to much about someone drinking 3.9 gallons of water. How often do you read in the paper about someone drinking themselves to death with water? We dont have rehabs for water drinkers.Ok just drink 2 gallons. That is a lot of water.
