Weight & Water

Should the amount of water you drink depend on how much you weigh? I heard something about the appropriate amount of water is 1 oz. of water per every pound you weigh. Is this true? If so, I would have drink a little over 3 gallons(386 oz.) of water per day.

Well the healthy thing to do is only drink water-no colas or anything else.Water is key in digestion and metabolism.Drinking cold water actually causes the body to burn calories warming itself back up!
The amount of water you drink supposedly should be between 60-80 ounces a day, especially if you are working out alot.

Green-like most workout guidlines you will find about a gillion opinions on any one subject.Nothing is written in stone.I dont check the amount of water I drink,I just dont drink anything else.Seems to be working for me ;-).

This was a post by alb-tex on why water is important. Click on the link below, read the post, then click on the link in Tex's post and write water in the search muscle tech . com search box and press go. Then click on number 5 water calculator. This is a good read for everyone!

I checked the website and it messes up when you put in a number over 350 lbs. So more than likely I would have to drink more than 279 oz. of water on a day that I exercise and over 175 oz. on a day that I don't exercise.

Any amount of weight over 252lbs. at 45 minutes a day at high intensity would put you at 200+ OZ. This is a guidline. Like with the eating a larger breakfast post you put up. Same thing would apply here. Figure you sleep 8 hours. On hard workout days if you averaged about a pint of water every couple hours that would be a gallon of water a day. Don't drown yourself, use good judgement. If you over exert yourself you can drink a little more, if you have an off day, you can drink a little less. Like the post above by J. said, nothing is etched in stone. The post by Tex was pointing out the importance of water, the benefits. I thought it was a very good read!

Re: Weight & Water

I wouldn't neccessarily concern yourself about the specific amount you're taking in. I will only measure my water intake during pre-contest preperation and it is a big hassle. If you don't have to do that....it's not neccessary. My recommendation is simply to take water with you everywhere you go....just make it a habit. Take it in the car, take it to work, take it to the gym, when you run errands, when you're sitting at home. And just continously sip it all day long. It's that easy. I take my little bottle with me everywhere and simply refill when neccessary. That will be more than adequate
