Drinking Too Much Water?

Is it possible to drink too much water? I have heard about causing harm by drinking too much? Is this a reality and if so please provide any documented proof.

Thanks.

IMO I believe it is possible to do too much of anything. But water is important in everyday life. If you sweat, exercise, cycle steroids, digest food ect. Water plays an important rule. I read a post by alb tex on another board about the benefits of drinking water. I will leave it up to him if he wants to share it with us sometime. I have also read articles on long distance runners endangering themselves drinking too much water. Common sense, like everything else in life.

You can do a search on hyponatremia and get the negative effects of drinking too much water if you want. I hope tex would post his water article, it is a really good read!

Re: Too Much Water?

How much are you drinking? I highly doubt you are drinking too much. It is possibly, but most people, even athletes, underestimate how much water they need. When we don't drink enough water our kidneys dump their workload on the liver. In this case it becomes more difficult for the liver to metabolize stored fat.

The average person loses 10 cups of water a day through breathing, sweating and elimination. If you are active or are in a warm environment this may be more.

I drink about 5L a day...and still feel that isn't enough.
I also supplement creatine and that gives me bad cottonmouth.
