I would say throw in some simple sugars(dextrose/Maltodextrin), It will cause an insulin spike in your body. An insulin spikewill allow your muscles to get the carbs they needs after a workout. As well as increase the amount of protein you can intake. Insulin is responsible for:

Bottom Line the best time to get your simple sugars is right after a workout, and right when you wake up. Don't rule out the sugar after a workout.
