| Re: Effect of Working Out Before Eating This is a very controversial topic as people always tend to have their own opinion on it.
From what I've read, it is recommended that you have a small bit to eat before you workout in the morning.
Because overnight you burn through most of your carbs that your body has stored in your liver, there is not much left in the morning (about 20%). If you begin working out on this, you are likely to burn through this remaining 20% and your muscles will continue working off of their glycogen stores.
However, since you burned through the 20%, you will be depriving your brain of a lot of energy which will hinder your workout because of lack of focus and perceived ability to make more effort.
Another thing I've read is that when working out in the morning without having eaten yet, your blood sugar levels will drop significantly.
